Our family of four went to Zion National Park on vacation with Michael's family in mid October. We were there for almost a week and it was absolutely fabulous. The views were breathtaking. We stayed in an amazing condo, and when you walked outside onto the patio, there was a fenced in front yard surrounded by gardens for all of the cousins to play in, and when you looked up, you were surrounded by mountains. Unbelievable.
The whole time we were there, I felt God telling me, "How could you ever doubt my power in your life, when I have made all of this with my own hands?" Michael and I talked about the possibilities of how God made the mountains. Michael thinks God created the tectonic plates under the Earth's surface, then shoved them together with His hands to make them. I think God, being the creative artist He is, sculpted them all by hand, even knowing what the weather and environment and surroundings would make them look like today. Either way, it's amazing.
Just about everything that went along with the trip was fantastic, and a wonderful experience for the boys, especially. They got to ride on their first airplane, and both of them LOVED it. I will never forget the sound of their giggles and the ecstatic looks on their faces the first time the plane took off. I sat between the two of them and kept looking back and forth, trying to soak in every moment. I packed a ton of little $1 activities from Target for them to do, and they were both so well behaved, even in their excitement. It was so much fun to see the trip through the eyes of little boys. I love knowing their little brain synapses were firing on overload the whole trip with new things to see and explore and process.
For the first 2-3 days, our family went out hiking and exploring in the park, stopping to collect things, and take pictures and videos. We bought souvenirs to bring back to the girls and ate at fun local restaurants. I got to read a lot of books and do a lot of resting, which was glorious. I think I took a nap every day of the trip. That alone was worth it! It was also so much fun to watch Bennett and Jasper play with their cousins, Caleb and Ethan, and Baby Lydia. Their favorite things to do together were playing tag, playing soccer, and playing with two lizards Michael found (that was the highlight of the trip for the boys, I think). Bennett named them Lizzy and Tizzy, and he and Ethan played with their "pets" for almost an hour, until they started chunking them across the yard like rocks, at which point we called it quits with the reptiles :).
On the last full day before our family left, we (our family, Michael's sister's family, and Papa and Nanna), drove out to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and hiked one of the trails out over the mountains. It was indescribable. I went once with Michael and the boys, then I went back a second time with Michael's dad, Dan. I couldn't get enough. I wished we could stay for hours, and I definitely want to do it again.

SCHOOL DAYS FOR JASPER
I'm not going to be self-deprecating and tell you that I'm a horrible mommy for just now getting around to posting Jasper's first day of school video. Instead I'm going to tell you that the beginning of the school year was full of crazy. Because we came in September last year, and Bennett and Jasper were home with me before, this was the first time to get all eight kids off to four different schools in August and September. Whew!
Things have really settled down and our house is doing SO well right now. I am soaking in this wonderful, peaceful season before things change again, as they tend to do in life :).
In the video I've uploaded, you'll get a sneak peek of my second-born's passive-aggressive style :). When he pouts, we all have to try so hard not to laugh.

TO THE NINES
Back again, starting back at our 9th anniversary, which is actually not as ridiculous as it sounds because we decided this past week what we want to do to celebrate for our big 10 next year! I'll cover this year's first, then our upcoming plans.
Michael took a lot of time planning and making things special this year. Each anniversary we try to do things that relate to the number of years we have been married. There aren't a whole lot of things related to the number nine, so he tried to plan out nine things to do. We counted it up later and I'm pretty sure we did them all, but we both lost track :).
We saw a movie in the theater, just the two of us, which is quite the rarity these days. The girls were on their relief week and the boys stayed with my parents for a couple of days. We stayed at the same hotel we stayed at on our honeymoon night, which was neat-o, we had dinner at Saltgrass Steakhouse (YUM!), we laid around and read books (another rarity), and several other things that I seriously can't remember because it was two months ago and I'm retarded for waiting so long to write about it :). Truth be told, I wouldn't have cared if we had done laundry and dishes together (slight untruth...I totally would have minded if that's what he had planned), I was so excited to have a good stretch of time to ourselves. We have a date night once a month when the girls go on relief, but this time was longer and we got away, which was a nice change.
Random, difficult-to-discern-what's-actually-going-on-pictures? Yes, please.

ONE YEAR
Two days ago marked our one year anniversary being here as house parents to teenage girls. A year ago, we were blissfully ignorant, and we had a road full of hardship and heartache to travel before arriving where we are today.
Today was actually a tough day, but I'm getting used to weathering the storms, and God is helping me get better at moving on and not hanging onto baggage. Our learning curve is still huge, but it isn't as brain-imploding as it used to be :). We are finally starting to do everything for the second time, and that alone is soooo very helpful.
I am looking forward to experiencing this year with a little bit of experience and knowledge under my belt. Next week we are on our relief week, and I'm planning to use the rest time to reflect and pray about improving and continuing the work here. Thank you, Lord, for bringing us here and for holding us close all along.

THIS WORLD IS NOT MY HOME
Our church sang a song last week called, "This World is Not My Home." On Friday, we received news that a freshman boy from Michael and Bennett's school drowned in a terrible accident at the lake while he and a group of friends were staying at a family's lake house. It is news like this that just crushes a spirit, makes us ask why, and makes me long desperately for Jesus to come quickly. The Lord must have known how much a message just like the one from last week would be needed. I have meditated on it, sung it and hummed it all weekend, and God has given comfort from it. I cannot imagine what his family is going through. I can't imagine the road ahead for them. All I can is pray that the Holy Spirit will intercede with our groanings and plead to the Lord on our behalf, to give them what they need.
This world is not my home.
Oh, this world is not my home!
My home's been made at heaven's throne.
This world is not my home.
This life is not my own.
Oh, this life is not my own!
I am His, and His alone.
This life is not my own.
'Cause I was bought when Love was slain,
What high cost to pay death's wage!
Now ransomed I am freedom's slave,
My Jesus raised me from the grave.
Come now and walk with me.
Oh, come now and walk with me!
Together we, our Lord shall meet.
Come now and walk with me.
'Cause I was bought when Love was slain,
What high cost to pay death's wage!
Now ransomed I am freedom's slave,
My Jesus raised me from the grave.
Soon Lord, oh very soon.
Oh, soon Lord, oh very soon.
You'll come take me, to be with You.
Soon Lord, oh very soon.
